Laboratory of Applied Mathematics
A non-profit organization in Odesa, Ukraine. We run free regular science and arts classes for children who live in shelters, rehabilitation centres and other residential institutions, and help each child find an adult who stays.
-
Science
Mathematics and logic, hands-on physics, programming in Python, first research projects.
-
Arts
Piano, guitar, ukulele, singing, drawing. Each cycle ends with a concert or an exhibition.
-
Mentoring
An adult who meets the child regularly for at least a year, and support for care leavers after 18.
What a child gets
Three things: a regular activity they are good at, an adult who does not disappear, and a visible result they can show to others: a project, a concert, an exhibition.
What sets us apart from one-off workshops is continuity. A group, a teacher and a mentor stay with the child for at least a year. Classes are open to every child in the institution, with no selection by ability.
How we work
- We come to the children with teachers and equipment. Classes take place in the institution where the children live, under an agreement with that institution.
- A cycle lasts 12 weeks, one class a week. A large group is split into subgroups of 6 to 8 children, each with its own leader.
- Everything is free for the children. There are no grades or rankings.
- Every adult is vetted and trained before meeting children. No adult is ever alone with a child.
Where we are now
The organization was registered in Odesa on 22 October 2026 (registration code 46593949). The organization has non-profit status (code 0032) and a bank account; donation details will follow shortly. The first step is a pilot in one or two institutions in Odesa. After the first cycle we will publish a report with the results.
